Short Documentary Film

In Bhaktapur, Nepal, there is a Living Goddess, the Kumari. Aged only 4 years old, she is nevertheless the embodiment of the Goddess Taleju. The Priest of her Temple in Bhaktapur was retiring, and - as his son chose to become a doctor not a hereditary priest - asked for the Kumari Puja to be filmed and documented for the first time.

In collaboration with the Priest and the OCHS (Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies), this short documentary film preserves one performance of a ritual and its details which were at risk of becoming obscure.
